Frequently asked questions

Is my PDF uploaded?
No. The scan and the clean copy both run in your browser, and the file never leaves your device.
What is a fake redaction?
A black rectangle drawn over text. The page looks redacted, but the text is still in the file, so anyone can select, copy or search it. The check only flags text a reader can actually extract.
Does the clean copy remove text hidden under black boxes?
No. The clean copy keeps page content as it is. To really remove text, use Redact PDF, which rewrites the affected pages as images. The 'Redact' buttons open it with the file and the values already filled in.
Can it read scanned documents?
Only the text layer is checked. Text that exists only inside an image (a scan without OCR) cannot be checked for personal data or hidden text.
Will a signed PDF stay signed?
No. Rebuilding the file removes its digital signature, and the tool warns you about this before you make a clean copy.
