Frequently asked questions
It says my PDF has no form fields — why?
The document was almost certainly printed, scanned or exported as a flat page rather than authored as a form. There are no interactive fields to fill, only a picture of a form. You would need to add fields first, or write on it with the Edit PDF tool.
What does flattening actually do?
It converts the filled fields into ordinary page content. The answers become permanent and can no longer be edited or extracted as form data — which is what you usually want when returning a completed form.
Why can I see a field but not change it?
The form's author marked it read-only, often for a calculated total or a reference number. It is shown so you can read it, but it is deliberately left alone.
Will the form still work in Acrobat afterwards?
Yes. Unless you flatten it, the output is a normal interactive PDF form with your values saved into it.
